Martin Jimenez
PERSONAL - I think Martin jokes but I hope all he says is true. He’s a former male stripper who now sells used golf balls door to door to underprivileged husbands who aren’t allowed to go to the driving range during the week… aka stay at home husbands while his wife works to support his golf addiction. Martin started golfing at 16 but didn’t start taking it seriously until 2022.
Sometime back when Martin was stripping for dollar bills, Justin Isaacks and Phill Kerr both became buddies…. not at the establishment where Martin was stripping for dollar bills. Sometime after that, Phill Kerr’s wife and Chris Anzalone’s wife also became buddies. Then Phil and Chris became buddies. Martin and Chris were also buddies, so Chris introduced Martin to Phill on the golf course and now they’re all buddies. So when I look at it that way, I guess the day I convinced our human resources manager to send me the resumes she had said were “crap,” that led to me hiring Justin Isaacks, was sort of the moment Martin’s trajectory began to align with the Montemar.
Martin seems like he’ll fit into this tournament just fine. He’s a mediocre golfer who spends way too much time doing it but keeps going because of how much fun it is. He seems like a great guy and another fantastic addition to this tournament.
ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MONTEMAR - Last year Martin donated a box of balls. Hoping he comes through again!
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IN 2024 - Martin will need to catch some luck in his random pairings and he’ll need to draft well. Par 3s carry some weight in the final scoring so landing balls on those greens will be key as well. Most importantly, Martin needs to have a blast.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN 2024 - Martin has a higher level of reading comprehension than most of the field and it paid off in a big way in 2024. Despite some pretty large numbers on the golf course, Martin was able to come in 30th place in his first ever trip to the Classic. He had a blast and was quick to jump back on board for Reno in 2025.
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IN 2025 - The great thing about being newish at golf is there’s lots of room for improvement. The great thing about being 6-5 is there’s some ability built into that frame. The great thing about putting up a huge number is 2024 is that the handicap is very friendly in 2025. Martin will enter this year’s opener with a very high number to play with. It will put him in a friendly division and give him every opportunity to capitalize on opening day. He’s actually one of the most valuable scramble players in the field. If Martin can find a ringer to pair up with he may find his way to the top of the leaderboard come Sunday.
ODDS TO WIN – 102-1
FUN FACT – Martin’s first set up clubs was a $100 set from Big 5 that were way too small for his 6-5 frame.
