Tyler Bjarnson
PERSONAL – Tyler lives in Snohomish, Washington with his wife, Haley and daughter’s, Mya (5), Natalie (4), and son, Maxwell (1). He is the owner of Fathom Property Management. Tyler has played golf since he was 8 and even played some in high school before realizing that he likes recreational golf much better.
Due to three kids born the past four years, Tyler doesn’t get out to play much these days. His last time playing was on a trip to Ireland in 2022, when him and 7 buddies played 36 holes per day for 12 days in Ireland while drinking quad Jamesons.
TIE TO THE MONTEMAR – Tyler is a North Kitsap guy and I’ve known him as long as I can remember, but can’t put a finger on when we first met. His older sister was closer to my age and I think for that reason, along with the fact that he’s always been incredibly sociable, are why I’ve always known who he was, even though he’s a few years younger. The first memory I have hanging out with him is when him and Will came to Edmonds to visit his sister and Jodi and we got him wasted. Or was it just me who was wasted? Who knows. Tyler was probably 14 or 15 at the time. Years later, after I had become good friends with Neil, I started to hang out with Tyler a bit more. Neil grew up with him and they’ve always been good buddies. They lived together for a couple of years in their twenties.
Tyler is a great guy who’s fun to be around, incredibly friendly, likes to pound coors light while playing golf, and will make another great addition to the Montemar for many years to come.
ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MONTEMAR – Last year Tyler came through big time by donating four seats behind home plate to a Mariner’s game. Hoping he can pull that again?
WHAT NEEDED TO HAPPEN IN 2024– Tyler claims his perfect number of holes for a round of golf is 15, but he’ll have to keep it together for 18 three consecutive days to have a shot at this one. Tyler has years of practice with functional drinking though and if there may not be a more important skill to have for this tournament than that. If he can channel his former high school playing self, combine it with his 16 handicap, and replace the quad Jameson’s with Coors light, Tyler has as good of a shot to come away with a jacket as anybody.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN 2024 - Last year Tyler told me his perfect number of holes for a round of golf was 15. I laugh as I look over his scorecard because the last three holes of the final round he went 8, 5, and 8… 21 strokes over three holes. I should have remembered that because I was with him but I was checked out by that time. Even with the terrible finish, Tyler put a great showing in his inaugural Montemar. He read the rules, did the little things right, and played just good enough golf to find his way into an 8th place finish at his first ever appearance. Most importantly, he had a blast and was quick to jump on board for Reno. I’d imagine we’ll have Tyler most future years.
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IN 2025 - Tyler is a sharp kid and sort of gets the scoring system now. He’s also smart enough to know how much Will carried him last year. Who he convinces to scramble with him will be a big deal in how he fares on the leaderboard. There’s about 40 referral points still out there. Tyler could literally go recruit a scramble team and get 5 points per guy who signs up. He knows enough people, one stud, one guy who plays just like him, and one super shitty golfer would do the trick. If he’s savvy enough to pull off something like that he could be wearing his first jacket in 2025.
ODDS TO WIN – 32-1
FUN FACT – Tyler’s wife ran the 800M in 2008 and 2012 for the Marshall Islands at the Olympics. They started the kid thing late while we lived in the Marshall Islands from 2012-2014 then started our careers upon our return.
