Jon Wat
PERSONAL – Jon lives in Elk Grove, California with his wife Kelsey and their identical twin girls, Sky and Mei, 6. Jon owns a company called Jon Wat Productions that specializes in event production – both live and streaming. Jon grew up watching his older brother, Timmer Tim Tim play golf but didn’t start the game for himself until the summer after his first year of college. Jon was hooked and I bet Timmy was so happy his little bro finally took up the game.
TIE TO THE MONTEMAR – I start to type this and I realize something I didn’t realize before today – I’m really excited for Jon Wat to be coming to this tournament. You see, I’ve been very good friends with his older brother, Tim, for over a decade. We were roommates for a couple years and have remained pretty close since. I’ve met Jon only a handful of times over these years and I just realized I don’t know as much about him as I should. That will change after this Montemar but in the meantime I’m going to have to wing his profile a bit…
Many years after Tim was born, and by many I mean about 2, Jon’s parents decided they could do a little better. This was no easy task because Tim is a top-notch individual, but they just had a feeling they could upgrade a bit. They had Jon and the verdict is still out on which Wat is the better Wat. I know Tim very well and it would be hard to pass him up as a human, but from what I know about Jon he seems pretty-dang cool also. Both men are great husbands, Jon is a hell of a dad and Tim is a hell of an uncle who’s also a hell of a golf buddy, Jon run’s his own business and Tim plays golf for his job. Jon is going to get me this ___________? And Tim is going to get me this _________________? My favorite Wat brother will be determined after the Scottsdale trip.
All kidding aside, from the times I’ve met Jon he seems like a really cool dude and it’s to be expected because he’s Tim’s little brother. He’s another great addition to the Montemar and one I’m especially looking forward to getting to know a bit better in Scottsdale.
ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MONTEMAR – Jon came through with a nice putter last year and will probably come up with something cool again. He’s also become a huge part of our scoring team and helps make that engine run.
WHAT NEEDEDED TO HAPPEN IN 2024 – If there’s one man on a mission for the 2024 version of the Montemar his name is Jon Wat. He’s a locked in and doing all the things necessary to become the best golfer named Wat. He’s shaved 5 or 6 strokes off his game since June and that, combined with the whopping handicap he’ll enter Idaho with, is a very dangerous combo. That said, he forgot to show up for competition last year. I’m hoping one of the best guys I know brings his A game to the tournament. If he does, look out for Jon to surpass his brother in the standings.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN 2024– See above. Jon’s dedication paid off in a big way and for the 2nd year in a row a man named Wat finished 2nd place at the Montemar. Most everything worked out for Jon last year. He had a monster handicap earned with shitty play in Scottsdale, he played well, his pairings worked out okay, he did all the little things right, and he came ooooh so close to becoming the first Wat to win a Jacket.
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IN 2025 – As well as Jon played last year, his opening round left a bit to be desired. This isn’t all bad news. The 95 at Circling Raven was shitty bad enough where Jon still carries a pretty solid handicap into Reno. Jon’s work on our scoring team and his natural ability to think through solutions is a deadly combo when it comes to the Montemar. He’s failed to take advantage of any more free referral points (still available) but other than that he’s doing all the little things right. Can he put together a scramble team that will compete in all six divisions?
ODDS TO WIN 23-1
FUN FACT – Jon shot a whopping 110 in his first ever Montemar round at TPC Scottsdale. This wasn’t even just a bad day, Jon just flat out sucked at golf two years ago. The man got to work after Scottsdale and now is a better pound for pound player than his older brother, Timothy… and will probably win a jacket before Timmy because Jon knows how to read.
