Aaron Schurer

PERSONAL – Aaron is single with no kids and lives in Sacramento, California. He’s a barber and manages Anthony’s barber shop. Aaron first started playing golf at the age of 9 or 10 and played little linkers for a couple of summers, but put the clubs down for close to 20 years and didn’t pick them up again until 2021, when his good buddy, Justin Isaacks, gave him a set of irons. He claims it “ruined his life.”

TIE TO THE MONTEMAR – Aaron met Justin way back because they both had some mutual friends. It was so memorable he doesn’t remember the exact meeting, but just knows that when they started hanging out they realized they had a lot in common and have been good buddies since. Aaron was an injury scratch last year. He tweaked his back so bad that he had to spend the Yoche round laid up in the hotel bed and the next day Justin had to wheel him out in a wheel chair. I’ve played golf with Aaron and he’s a pleasure to be around. A real solid guy who’s real raw in golf but has loads of potential. A great guy for this event!

ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MONTEMAR – Nothing yet but I’m sure Aaron can come up with something creative. I know I definitely wouldn’t mind a certificate for a hair cut or two. Have you seen super cuts prices these days!?

WHAT NEEDED TO HAPPEN IN 2023 – Aaron needs to do a lot more of what he did at Talking stick on the final day in 2023. All the ability is there but consistency will be key. He heads to Montemar with a generous handicap and if he can take advantage of that on day one he should find himself near the top after that round. What he does with his scramble team will be interesting. His group needs a ringor. How he navigates the draft will play a major roll in where his name ends up on that leaderboard come Monday.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN 2024 – Aaron started his Idaho Tourney out much the same way he did in Scottsdale, carding a big number to open the round. Similar to Scottsdale, he dropped some significant strokes on the final day. Not record setting strokes, but significant.

WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IN 2025 – Aaron has all the ability to go out and win a Montemar. He’s got a very friendly handicap and can make all the shots. How much he plays will be key and, if history is any lesson, perhaps he should try to simulate a round or two the days leading up to the tourney. The man always gets better later in the contest. Aaron gets this though and always shows up with a smile on his face ready to have a great time with the buddies.

 ODDS TO WIN – 84-1

FUN FACT – First time I played with Aaron, first hole, we’re playing the Mackenzie course at Haggin. Me, Justin, Aaron. I stripe my tee shot down the middle and on the right side of the fairway – perfect position and also totally irrelevant to this story, just wanted to throw that in there – Justin and Aaron both pull their tee shots to the left rough. What happened next I can still see in slow motion in my mind. I’m at my ball waiting to hit. Aaron drops Justin off at his ball and then decides to go to his, which is 20 yards in front of Justin’s but on the other side. Aaron drives 15 yards up as Justin is taking his practice shots, not paying any attention to Aaron. Aaron turns left in front of Justin’s line and as soon as he does Justin starts his backswing. I don’t even have time to scream. Justin tattoos his 3-wood on a frozen rope. I see it hit Aaron straight in the face and Aaron drops out of the cart and onto the ground. I think he’s dead.
